COVID-19 Around The World
1. Kill more than SARS patients
- Overall, this Wuhan flu has greatly increased SARS, caused by coronavirus in the early 2000s.
- So far, 4,900,000 people have been infected worldwide and more than 320,000 have died, according to https://www.outbreak.my/world
- The main concern about the disease is how easily and quickly it spreads. If you are within 1.8 meters of an infected person, you are considered at risk. This makes public transport the most dangerous place.
- Additionally, the virus-infected symptoms may take up to 2 weeks to appear. This makes the new virus very susceptible to the common cold, but it is certainly much more dangerous.
2. Covid-19 is more dangerous to men
- Scientists in China have found that men and women have a similar probability of being infected by coronaviruses.
- As an example, the death rate in China is 2.8% for men compared to 1.7% for women. This also suggests that men are more likely to die when infected.
- Currently, the notion that female immunity is stronger than men's.
- Although the exact reason for this is still unknown, it is believed to be associated with higher levels of estrogen in women or the fact that each woman has two X chromosomes compared to one X chromosome.
3. Reduce pollution in China
- Scientists believe the recent reduction in air pollution across China is linked to efforts to control the spread of Covid-19.
- The virus was first detected late last year in central Hubei, blocking transportation and movement and disrupting large-scale business activities across China.
- With fewer factories operating, cars and trucks on the road, as well as airplanes, made the sky cleaner.
- According to NASA, the level of nitrogen dioxide, a pollutant that comes mainly from the burning of fossil fuels, dropped by 30%.
4. The patient is immune and can be infected a second time

- When someone already infected with coronavirus, you can be infected again after curing it.
Recently, a Japanese woman was diagnosed with Covid-19 for the second time.
- The woman was a tour bus driver in Osaka, which made her more susceptible to infection because of the number of people interacting with her daily. The news is rather alarming as it increases the potential impact of the disease.
- Furthermore, it makes the production of this virus vaccine less viable. Scientists are still trying to figure out how the coronavirus can infect the same person twice.
5. Is it from bats, snakes or spiders?
- Currently, we hear that the most likely cause of this virus is from bats. China has a reputation for owning unique local cuisine as wildlife can be bought in the market and eaten. Some of the specialty dishes include delicious (and quite scary) bat soup.
- Scientists are trying to determine which animal is responsible for transmitting the virus to humans, but they are still uncertain.
- Two other potential causes include snakes and spiders.
- These creatures are traded around the world because they are considered a very special food.
