From Squatter to PPR
- Squatter settlements are one of the problems of the city in Kuala Lumpur since Kuala Lumpur achieved rapid development around the late 1960s (Aiken, 1982).

- The existence of squat settlements is often associated with various negative issues such as crime, social problems, poverty and environmental issues (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, 1984).
- According to the census conducted in 1999, 23,970 families lived in squatter settlements in the Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, 2009).
- According to Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (2003), in line with the rapid development of the city of Kuala Lumpur, solve the problem of squatter settlements are one of the important agendas for Urban development.
- In the Rancangan Malaysia ke-7, the program increased its implementation targets. Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) is a form of resettlement project introduced by the Government. A total of 24 projects consisting of 32, 437 housing units was designed and by 2007 a total of 243 houses were completed built in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.

- In Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) was responsible for the provision of public housing for the community who had the low-income while Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur acts as a party in charge of managing the community. Purpose of provision public housing is to restructure society to create racial harmony and unity (Kuala Lumpur City Hall, 2009).
